Brilliant doctor. Good listener and a teacher to help understand what was occurring with me. Knowledgeable with a good bedside manner. We are fortunate to have this specialist to gather information from.

Dr. Bartus came highly recommended and I know why now that I’ve been under her care. Not only an amazing surgeon, but her manner and interaction with her patients is outstanding, and caring. THANK YOU! 🙏

Had colonoscopy & Dr B did not come to speak with me after. I left THREE messages for her to call me to discuss the colonoscopy & she did not. Went in for surgery-did not see her before being put out. She did not come to see me until an hour before i was discharged &did not explain how things went. Spent less than a minute with me.Several nurses & other surgeons that came to see me stated one of the bruises on abdomen, is not what they usually see with this surgery. (HUGE bruise while the others were very small.) Terrible bedside manner. I had asked one of the surgeons about what they found regarding the surgery which he explained in great detail. When Dr Bartus did come see me, I asked same question. She stated “diverticulitis”. That’s it. One word . Then stated “you did good” & walked out of my room. Having follow up soon with the PA & will discuss this & my dissatisfaction. She may be a great surgeon, but most patients want to hear details, & what’s to come with healing etc.

6 mos ago, a mass was found attached to my colon. I have difficulty prepping for a colonoscopy as the prep causes intense abdominal pain. I messaged several times inquiring which prep is easiest for someone with IBS... the nurses were not helpful via my chart. During my colonoscopy, the Dr suspected endometriosis and laproscopic surgery was scheduled. I saw her for 5min. I adjusted my own patients and applied for my FMLA in preparation for my upcoming surgery. I received a call a couple weeks later from this office that they want to push the surgery out. I explained that it wasnt possible due to all the work done on my end. The nurse called me back and said adjustments were made and it still would continue as planned. Once again, no helpful advice on a less painful prep so I stopped eating solids 10 days prior. I took the prep called in, just to be sure everything was out but my body threw it right up. By the time I was done with vomiting, super strong antibiotics that caused diarrhea, I was dehydrated and requested fluids right before surgery. In pre-op, all Drs introduced themselves and staff lined up to go into the room which was nice. I didnt get to speak with Dr Bartus so I was left wondering if she had another surgery. Post op, I did not see her either. I woke up and learned that the disease was scraped but remained on my colon. A resection was not done though much of the endometriosis attachments and lesions were cleaned out by Dr Cosin. By doing this, it allowed the disease to fester because unless you get all Endo via excision surgery, you will continue to have problems. In addition to that, I was never given pain meds post op. It wasnt until 3wks later when I saw my other surgeon that was in the room, that I found out he anticipated the surgery to be worse than a full hysterectomy. Never did I speak to Dr Bartus. I was symptom free for one month post op and it was all back. I messaged asking why a resection wasnt done and was basically told it didnt need to be and sent on my way as if all was good. 5mos later Im going to 2 different international endometriosis specialists in NYC. Both advised me that Endo of the Bowels was left inside me and needed to come out. I had surgery for the 2nd time, last week. My colorectal specialist did a resection and told me they couldnt fit a probe in my colon which was kinked and filled with scar tissue and he didnt know how I functioned like that. He did a resection and eliminated the endometriosis lesion which is now healing well. In addition, these Drs had me use MiraLAX and I had NO ABDOMINAL cramping/pain for my prep. Thats all I was asking initially and nobody, via my chart, had any idea how preps work in the body. Im giving this rating because while I can appreciate some people have great reviews and the Drs are probably skilled, the way Hartford Hospital runs things is ridiculous. Not one post op call either to check how I felt post op. I fell through the cracks and needed a second surgery less than 6mos later which is not to be taken lightly as multiple surgeries increase scar tissue and are hard on the body. I educate my own patients on their disease diagnosis and do my best to give them a fresh start. I would appreciate if Hartford Hospital/insurance companies allowed the Doctors to do the same. Also, post op visits with an APRN(that were not in the surgery room)is simply not acceptable. She could not answer any of my questions and also failed to que in that I received no post op ibuprofen 800mg. Working in healthcare myself, I am saddened by the way things transpired. A patient deserves at minimum, an education on their new diagnosisis, a post op appt with surgeon who did their surgery and post op pain medication for pain management.
